Meet the Therapists

Julie Simmons MS, LPC (she/her)

Owner, Clinical Director, Outpatient Therapist

Hi! I'm so glad you're here! My name is Julie, and I am a licensed professional counselor in Pennsylvania. I am also an EMDR trained therapist through an EMDRIA approved program. I am trained to help you, your child, and/or your family live a more fulfilled life! I have a background in helping children, teens, and young adults overcome a number of problems - especially anxiety, depression, trauma and major life adjustments. Everyone enters into counseling with their own unique experiences and difficulties, and that is why I believe there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to therapy.

I want to get to know you so I can customize therapy to help you develop and achieve goals that are specific to your needs. I understand that counseling can often be a scary venture to some, especially children, and often find that parents/caregivers or young adults aren't sure if counseling can be helpful, which is why my goal is to support and empower my clients to learn that change and healing is possible. I believe a strong therapeutic relationship and trust is key in counseling.

I have over 15 years of experience working in the mental health field.  I graduated with my bachelors degree in Studio Art and Psychology and then further expanded upon my interests in therapy with a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling.  I am also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Pennsylvania and have received extensive training in play therapy and therapy with children and adolescents, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy models, as well as post graduate coursework in play therapy with Temple University.  I am also an EMDR trained therapist through an EMDRIA approved program with a focus on using EMDR with children, teens and their families. I have trained and practiced in a variety of environments including the home, school, community and office settings. I have co-facilitated groups for teen grief and co-directed a summer therapeutic camp for children.  I love to incorporate child centered and directive play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness into sessions when appropriate.

Katie Kloos MA, LPC, ATR (she/her)

Hi! I’m Katie! I graduated with my Bachelors of Fine Arts with minors in Psychology and Writing. I went on to graduate school to focus on my Master’s Degree in Art Therapy and Counseling. I am a registered Art Therapist (ATR) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania. I hope to create a caring, authentic, encouraging and warm environment for all my clients so they can feel supported, comforted and challenged to grow.

My past experiences include working at an inpatient facility and outpatient agency. At the inpatient facility, I led art therapy groups and worked with adults. In the outpatient agency, I held individual sessions with a variety of clients ranging from 3-70 years old.

I particularly enjoy working with older kids, adolescents and young adults. I employ mindfulness techniques, play therapy, art therapy, client centered and strength based approaches when appropriate. I consider myself holistic and like to look at the whole picture as to be aware of the many influences in each person’s life. I highly value the therapeutic relationship and believe it can be a powerful vehicle for healing. Hope to see you soon!

Devon Powell MS, LPC (she/her)

Hi! I'm Devon! I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor, someone you can feel free to talk to about anything. As a caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable professional, I will provide you with extra support and encouragement when dealing with challenging times. It is very important that my clients feel comfortable, so they can feel free to express themselves, gain confidence and learn new communication skills. I also feel it is important to explore behaviors to improve positive relationships with others and to help you find a healthier new sense of self. I will support growth within problem solving, building strengths and building on achievement of goals.

My areas of experience and interest include working with children, adolescents and families. I will work to support the individual and family unit within many areas of behavioral, relational, anger, anxiety, and self image difficulties. I specialize in behavioral support, particularly focusing on parenting support and relations within family dynamics as well as utilizing play therapy techniques when working with children. I often incorporate an emphasis on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) within a play therapy model (when working with children). I have additional extensive training in working with anxiety, particularly with children utilizing play therapy based techniques and teens. I am currently completing basic EMDR training with an EMDRIA approved program focusing on utilizing EMDR with children and teens (as well as adults!).

Hi! I’m Haley Swayne, Licensed Clinical Social Worker here in Pennsylvania. I graduated with my Master of Social Work from West Chester University and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in PA. As a social worker, I value empowering children, teens and young adults who face adversity and always act with care and compassion toward clients. Through active listening I am able to identify clients’ needs, which allows me to collaborate with them and their support system when creating a treatment plan that utilizes their strengths to enhance their well-being.

I have dedicated my career to providing evidence-based trauma informed care by obtaining my Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Certification (TF-CBT) and am a Clinical Certified Trauma Professional (CCTP). I am an EMDR trained therapist through an EMDRIA approved program with a focus on using EMDR with children, teens and their families, as well as EMDR with adults. I also am a Certified EMDR Parent-Child & Attachment Specialist. Furthermore, I provide a space for children and adolescents to discover their super powers of managing their big emotions and processing traumas and/or life events that are distressing for them. My past experience includes working at several different levels of mental health care as an outpatient therapist with children through adult ages, as a Trauma therapist, and also with a local hospital as a case manager.

In sessions I utilize strength-based approaches including Mindfulness based interventions, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Child-Centered Play Therapy, and EMDR therapy. I currently am also under advanced supervision to become a Certified EMDR trained therapist . I believe including parents and other support systems are also integral in working with children and teens. I have great knowledge in working with anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injuries, depression, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. I hope that those who align with my approach reach out and start their recovery and discovery with me!
