Art Therapy
What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is an effective and supportive process to help improve one's path to growth. Through integrative methods and creative expression, children, teens and adults can foster healing and mental well-being.
Art therapy can be helpful for you or your child in a variety of ways. The creation or appreciation of art is utilized to help people develop self-awareness, boost self-esteem, cope with stress, improve anxiety or depression, explore/build on emotional awareness, work on social skills, and much more. Drawing, sculpture, collage, painting and other artistic forms can help all ages to express their emotions in a nonverbal way.
"Art therapy is the deliberate use of art-making to address psychological and emotional needs. Art therapy uses art media and the creative process to aid in areas such as, but not limited to: fostering self-expression, create coping skills, manage stress, and strengthen sense of self. Art therapy has provided mental health treatment for clients who have experienced trauma, grief & loss, depression, major life change, chronic illness, and anxiety. It is important to state that being "good at art" is not necessary to benefit from art therapy. Art-making takes place from within." Gretchen Miller, MA, ATR-BC, ACTP
